HONOR, RUN AND REMEMBER WITH DARKHORSE MARINES!
- 8:00 am
Team Darkhorse, the 501 C 3 non-profit support committee for our city’s adopted 3rdBattalion,5th Marines, encourages the community to participate and attend the city’s Memorial Day Half Marathon, 5 and 10K race. The event, which falls on Monday,May 28 this year, has become renowned among local veterans, runners and Gold Star families as the place to commemorate the deep meaning of the holiday. It is a great way to pay respects to our country’s heroes. Up to 4,000 runners are expected this year. This is a great community event, both meaningful and invigorating, and a perfect way to burn calories, mingle and recognize the purpose of the hoiday before the barbecues begin!
Each year we invite a prior wounded combat veteran to serve as Grand Marshal in order to recognize loss, and encourage and acknowledge recovery. These young veterans are the gold standard of conquering a dual challenge — battling adversity while embracing life.
Team Darkhorse provides the Grand Marshal with a grant check, and hosts he and his guest for the weekend in Laguna Hills. We also cover the race registrations for active duty Marines and combat veterans who want to run. If you would like help us in our mission of encouragement and support to those who give so much to our country, you can donate on line at teamdarkhorse.org; at the race, or send your donation to Team Darkhorse, 25462 Nellie Gail Road, 92653.
